Dillsburg BIC Response to Corona Virus Outbreak

Updated 11:0 a.m., November 27

Join us for worship in the building on Sunday! We will gather at 10:30 a.m. and ask that you sign up in advance for a seat at Worship Service Sign-up.  A couple of things to keep in mind:
  • Please wear a mask as you enter the building. If you forget your mask, we are happy to provide one.
  • Please enter using the door closest to the area you will be worshiping in.  (If you will be in the fellowship hall, enter through the parking lot doors. If you will be in the sanctuary, enter through the Chestnut Street doors. If you will be in the Orange Room/Basement enter at the lower Harrisburg Street door.)
  • As you enter, please see the greeter on duty so they can keep track of who is in the room. There will be a place in each room where you can pick up a bulletin, along with a basket where you may place your offering, although you are encouraged to continue using alternative methods such as mailing or online giving where practical.
  • If you are worshipping in the Orange Room/Basement, consider parking in the Square Bean parking lot so you have a shorter walk and to encourage social distancing. After you are seated, you may remove your mask if you like.
  • Give lots of air hugs and heart pats to express your care for those you have not seen for a long time.
  •  Please stay on the floor where you are worshipping. We will try to have mail from mailboxes brought to the room where you are scheduled to worship.
  • Please clean up the area you sat in after the service.
  • The worship service will available to stream live or after the service is over (see details below), so please join us online if you are not feeling well, if you choose to stay home. or if there are no seats remaining when you try to sign up.
  • If there are no seats available when you try to sign up, please call or email the church office as soon as possible and let us know if you plan to attend the following week, along with your seating preference and the number of people in your group. We would then reserve your seat(s) for the following week prior to opening the signup to others.
Here is a link to the video we prepared earlier about what it will look like as we move back indoors. There have been a few changes since it was created during the summer, so please watch it again and pay particular attention to the text overlays, which highlight the changes. Note that the Basement/Orange Room is now FACE SHIELD/MASK OPTIONAL with singing, which is a big change from the original plan: Return to the Building!

How to watch the Sunday Service online – a YouTube link will be sent out and posted here on Sunday morning. Please note that a username and password will be needed to access services from the dillsburgbic.org website due to privacy and copyright issues. The username and password have been sent out by email from the church office.  If you do not have them and need to get them, please email .

Updated 8:30 p.m., October 30

Due to health concerns in our community, we are cancelling our in-person service for this Sunday.  We will provide a service similar to what we did at the beginning of Covid.  We will send the link out on Sunday.  It will also be available on the website here.

We will have youtube videos for songs as there was no time to record the songs we planned.
Please take a moment and check in on each other this week.  We will plan on being together next Sunday, with the sign-up opening on Monday.

Updated 5:00 p.m., October 27

We are looking forward to welcoming you as we resume worship indoors at DBIC this coming Sunday, November 1.  We will be following CDC guidelines and ask you to continue to practice social distancing, to wear masks where required, and to greet one another with waves or elbow bumps rather than handshakes and hugs.

In order to provide space for social distancing on the different floors of the church, we are asking everyone to sign up each week for the floor they will attend.  We are asking you to remain on that floor for the entire time you are attending to limit contact, should we have a COVID-19 exposure.  Please review the available slots that are open for service attendance.  Sign up for the floor you will plan to attend.  Please include all members of your family in the number of attendees slot.  If you will be in the sound/media tech booth, you do not need to sign up for a seat.  Please be sure to sign up before 8 PM on Saturday night as the sign-up sheets will shut down at that time.  This gives time for leaders to prepare for Sunday morning.

Go to  https://www.dillsburgbic.org/worship-service-signup/ and click “sign-up” on the appropriate floor to add your name and # of attendees to that floor. Thank you!

Updated 5:30 p.m., October 23

Join us for our outdoor worship service this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the green space next to the parking lot.

A couple of things to keep in mind:
  • There will be a table set up at the York Street end of the park lot where you can pick up a bulletin. There will also be a container where you may place your offering, but you are encouraged to continue using alternative methods such as mailing or online giving where practical.
  • In order to protect your brothers and sisters, we ask that you wear a mask from your car until you are seated as well as when you are moving around the grounds at the end of the service when safe distancing will be challenging.
  • Give lots of air hugs and heart pats to express your care for those you have not seen for a long time.
  • Bring a blanket or chairs (and maybe a hat or umbrella for shade) and follow the lead of the ushers when finding your spot. We will have circles marked off as a guide for safe distancing on the grass.
  • We plan to have a few chairs from the church placed on the parking lot wall for those who would have difficulty walking in the grass. If you will not have difficulty in the grass, please honor your brothers and sisters by leaving those chairs for them.
  • The church bathrooms on the main floor (the sanctuary floor) will be available for use.
  • The worship service will be recorded and available to stream after the service is over (see details below), so please join us online if you are not feeling well or choose to stay home.
  • In case of inclement weather, we will have an online-only service at 10:30 am. If it is clear on Saturday evening that we will have inclement weather, an email will be sent before 10 pm Saturday evening. If we wake up Sunday to a surprise, we will email any change before 8 a.m.
Sunday’s service will be available LIVE – a YouTube link that will be sent out and will be available at https://www.dillsburgbic.org/worship-service-october-25-2020/. Failing that, we will upload the recording and get it to you as soon as possible after the service concludes – between 12:00 and 12:30. Please note that a username and password will be needed to access services from the dillsburgbic.org website due to privacy and copyright issues. The username and password were emailed to you if you are on the church email list. If you do not have it, please contact If the service is held indoors due to weather, we will stream live, and you will receive an email so you know what time it will begin.

We will also be showing the live stream of Sunday’s service in the Sanctuary at the same time as the actual service. To watch the service there, however, we are going to ask you to remain masked at all times and to remain six feet apart from each other at all times. We will allow singing in the sanctuary but ask that you remain masked. We also ask you to enter the building through the door next to the church office, enter the sanctuary through the front door of the sanctuary, limit your movements to the sanctuary floor, and at the conclusion of the service exit through the back door of the sanctuary and exit the building by the door by the office. We will also ask you to help clean up the pew you sat in after the service. After the end of the service, you are, of course, free if you wish, to go and fellowship with the other members of the congregation who have taken part in the outside service.

Join us for Communion this Sunday during our outdoor worship service at 10:30 a.m. in the green space next to the parking lot. Updated 12:00 p.m., September 20

Join us this Wednesday night, September 23 at 5:15 for Corner Life: where food, fun, and neighbors come together!  Meet on the lawn at the corner of Chestnut and Harrisburg streets for an outdoor dinner and stay for music, sharing, games, and fun for all ages!  We’ll begin with a no-cost meal at 5:15 served by our volunteers and eaten picnic-style on blankets or camp chairs (bring your own!) in our green space. Then at 6:00, we’ll sing, laugh, play, and learn together from our picnic spots (while maintaining appropriate distance). We’re excited to welcome families with kids, singles, roommates, older adults – everyone is welcome!  Our time together will end by 7:00.  Bring something to sit on and a mask to wear while moving about. This is a FAIR WEATHER ONLY event, however, the meals will be available on a drive-through basis between 5:15 and 6:00 if the weather keeps us from gathering on the lawn! Meals can also be ordered ahead of time and taken “to-go” if you can’t stay to eat and play

Sunday’s service will be available LIVE – a YouTube link that will be sent out and will be available at https://www.dillsburgbic.org/worship-service-september-20-2020/.

Updated 1:00 p.m., September 4

Join us this Wednesday night at 5:15 for Corner Life: where food, fun, and neighbors come together!

There have been technical difficulties with that process, so we’re going to try a LIVE stream via ZOOM in addition to the recording. The information about the link and how to access the Zoom meeting was sent out by email from the church office at 6:29 pm on July 25. Unlike regular ZOOM meetings, your home video will not be used – you will only be able to see the service, the service won’t see or hear you! It is a test, and we’ll be using a single iPad camera, so quality may be questionable but we’re hoping this may prove to be a more immediate and live experience!!!!

The link to the YouTube recording will be sent out as usual after the service concludes and is uploaded. If the live ZOOM process does not work, we apologize in advance – we will continue working to create as immediate and inclusive a streaming worship experience as possible!

Updated 5:30 p.m. July 4

We will continue to hold outdoor worship services (weather permitting) through Labor Day.

Updated 7:00 p.m. July 3

We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper together at our second outdoor service on July 5. We are recommending that households bring their own elements: something to represent Jesus’ body (bread, crackers, cookies!?) and something to represent his blood (juice, tea, water). We will have individually packaged wafers and grape juice cups available for anyone who does not bring their own elements. You can also join us online by providing your own elements in your home while you stream the service.
We will gather at 9:30 a.m. in the green space beside the DBIC church parking lot. A couple of things to keep in mind:
  • There will be a table set up at the York Street end of the parking lot where you can pick up a bulletin.
In case of inclement weather, we will have an online-only service at 10:30 am.

Sunday’s service will not be streamed live at 9:30 due to technical challenges streaming from outdoors. We will be recording the service on video and as soon as the service is over we will upload it to YouTube and send out the link and post it on the website. We expect that to be around 11:00. Please note that a user name and password will be needed to access services from the dillsburgbic.org website due to privacy and copyright issues. The username and password were set out an email sent on July 5 from the church office and will be sent out again in email with the link to the service. If you cannot find the username or the password, please contact the church office: If the service is held indoors due to weather, we will stream live, and you will receive an email so you know what time it will begin.

At present, we are planning to be in the building on July 12. There is a video available at https://youtu.be/V_7NausPPWkthat helps us get ready for that time. We wanted you to have time to watch it, so that you know what to expect and ask questions.

Please know that we understand for some people our measures are going to be too much. For some, it is not going to be enough. Our goal is to get through this together.

We will need to give each other some grace and patience. If we are inside on the 12th, please know that we are asking folks to wear masks when in the building, but we also understand that there can be reasons why people may not have a mask on.

For those who aren’t ready to rejoin because of concerns over the virus, please continue to watch the stream and join our other ways of connecting. For those who aren’t joining because the environment is too restrictive, please consider gathering with like-minded people and watch the service together. The links will remain active after the live stream ends.

Updated: 6:00 p.m, March 13

As of right now, we are cancelling our gatherings for this week (Sunday, March 15). The decision to cancel was made in conjunction with Leadership Council, staff, and the physicians who attend DBIC.

This decision was made not out of fear of the disease, but out of our desire to be a place of health and wholeness. We will reassess the situation during the week and send out further information as decisions are made. While we not being meeting in the same geographic space, we will be streaming a service that you can watch. There are many details that are being worked out, like whether it will be a live stream or prerecorded video.

If all goes according to plan, some material for the adult Sunday School class made available. Stay tuned for more details..

Links will be made available to these resources, so please stay tuned.

During this time, please pray and check in on each other and let us know if there are particular needs that we can help with. While small groups are asked to not meet, they are being asked to function as house churches in caring for each other during this new experience we are all having.

If you wish to contribute to the church during this time, you can do so online at https://app.easytithe.com/App/Giving/dbic.

Do not be afraid, because he will never leave us or forsake us.
